Topstep’s Standard 50K evaluation cost $49 at checkout when Phidias, a rival firm, read Topstep’s prices on October 15, 2026. If you passed in month one, the $149 activation fee took the bill to $198. So the cheapest futures prop firm is the one with the lowest total up to your first payout, not the lowest first charge.

A $49 Checkout Price Reached $198 at Funding

Prop Firm Match notes that the cheapest futures challenges typically start below $50 to $100 for smaller account tiers. That is the first charge, not the total.

In the Topstep case, the $49 is one month of a subscription, and the $149 activation fee comes once you pass. So the price on the button covered about a quarter of the month-one total ($49 of $198).

Apex’s Intraday Standard 50K shows the same pattern. With a code that ended October 15, per Phidias, it was $24.90 plus a $99 activation fee: $123.90, so the fee was about four-fifths of the bill. At the $249 list price, the total was $348. Phidias lists it as one-time for 30 days, so the month table below leaves it out.

Phidias says it read every competitor price on that firm’s own website on October 15, 2026.

Total Cost Runs From the Evaluation to Payout Eligibility

Prop Firm Match describes the basic model: you pay an evaluation fee, follow the firm’s rules, and may become eligible for payouts if you meet its requirements. The evaluation is the paid test account. A funded account is the account you trade after passing.

Phidias defines total cost to a funded account as the evaluation plus the activation fee, every monthly rebill and every reset. Tradeify’s guide advises mapping the full cost path from buying the evaluation to payout eligibility. Payout eligibility is the point where the rules let you request a payout. The checklist below runs to Tradeify’s finish line; the table further down stops at funding, as Phidias’s does.

Count these lines up to that finish line:

  1. The evaluation fee, either one-time or monthly.
  2. The activation fee, on plans that have one.
  3. Monthly rebills (the subscription charging again) for each extra month the evaluation stays open.
  4. Resets, meaning paid restarts after a rule breach.
  5. Replacement accounts bought after a failure.
  6. Platform and data charges, which Tradeify’s guide lists as costs to check.
  7. Payout fees, which Phidias’s page counts as a cost line.

For what changes after you pass, see Topstep funded account rules.

A Reset Often Costs Close to a Second Evaluation

Tradeify lists four outcomes after a failed account: renewal, a paid reset, cancellation, or buying a replacement account, depending on the firm and plan. Each one costs a different amount.

Phidias describes resets as paid restarts after a breach, “often close to the evaluation price.” So one reset can come close to doubling what you paid to start.

On a monthly plan, renewal means more rebills: in Phidias’s example, a $49 monthly plan costs $98 if you need two months. Prop Firm Match notes that a monthly fee often runs until you pass, cancel or reset.

With Discounts, a $76.50 One-Time Plan Cost Least in Every Month

The table compares five 50K (a $50,000 account size) plans from Phidias’s October 2026 cost page, with prices read on October 15, 2026.

The Topstep rows are the two monthly cases, with and without an activation fee. The other three are one-time plans with no activation fee from the same table. Phidias wrote the page and sells one of them: Express to Live, one of its three account types, where the first payout converts the account to LIVE.

Each month column uses the price with the code and assumes a pass that month, with no reset or failure. A one-time evaluation, Phidias notes, “costs the same whether you pass in a day or in a quarter.”

Plan (50K) How it bills (list / with code) Pass in month 1 Pass in month 2 Pass in month 3
Topstep Standard $49 a month + $149 activation $198 $247 $296
Topstep No Activation Fee $95 / $85 a month, $0 activation $85 $170 $255
Phidias Express to Live $723 / $144.60 one-time (code PHIDIAS) $144.60 $144.60 $144.60
MyFundedFutures Builder $153 / $76.50 one-time, at checkout $76.50 $76.50 $76.50
Lucid Trading LucidPro $192 / $140.40 one-time $140.40 $140.40 $140.40

The Topstep rows add one rebill per month. Standard by month three = $149 + $49 × 3 = $296. No Activation Fee by month three = $85 × 3 = $255.

At list price, the one-time Phidias plan cost more than both Topstep plans in all three months: $723 against $296 and $285 ($95 × 3) by month three.

At list prices, the $95 plan cost $58 less than Builder’s $153 in month one. From month two, Builder cost $37 less ($153 against $190).

The table has no figures for resets or the replacement accounts on Tradeify’s failure list, nor for data or payout fees; add those from each firm’s own page.

Discounts Cut the One-Time Prices Most in This Table

Phidias gives the list price and the price with the code wherever a firm showed a coupon, and notes that codes change every week. Treat every discounted price as dated.

On Topstep’s No Activation Fee plan, the code cut $95 to $85 a month, or $30 over three months. On a one-time plan, the discount is the whole saving. Phidias’s 50K Express to Live fell from $723 to $144.60, a $578.40 cut. MyFundedFutures Builder’s checkout price was half its list price: $76.50 against $153.

Before you count a code, check which charges it covers: month one only, every rebill, or the activation fee too.

Nine Checks Before You Buy a Futures Evaluation

  1. Set the finish line at payout eligibility and count every charge up to it.
  2. Write down the evaluation price both with and without any code.
  3. Find the activation fee, or confirm the plan has none.
  4. Multiply the monthly rebill by one, two and three months, not just one.
  5. Price a reset and a replacement account in case you fail.
  6. Add platform and data charges.
  7. Add payout fees.
  8. Compare the same account size, with prices read on the same date.
  9. If a rival firm supplied a price, re-read it on that firm’s own page.

Verdict: A One-Time Fee Cost Less From Month Two in This Table

With the discounts Phidias showed on October 15, 2026, all three one-time plans cost less than either Topstep plan if you passed in month two or later. MyFundedFutures Builder, at $76.50, cost least in every month.

The flaw: every price in the table comes from Phidias, which sells one of the plans in it. The fix: read each firm’s own pricing page on the same day, then redo the sums.

The strengths: the method needs only a price list and a calculator, and it shows how much a code or an activation fee moves the total.

If you expect to pass in month one and no discount applies, pick Topstep’s $95 No Activation Fee plan: it cost less than every one-time list price here. If you need longer, pick a one-time plan: with discounts, all three cost less than both Topstep plans from month two.

Next Step: Add Payout Rules to Your Sum

Payout caps and splits come after the fees and belong in the same plan. Read Topstep payout rules: check the cap and split before you request before you finish your total.

Next step: read more in Prop-firm rules on TradingRating, or check the figures in Futures prop firm rules and fees, checked daily.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a one-time fee always cheaper than a monthly plan?

No. At list prices, Topstep’s $95 monthly plan cost less than every one-time plan in the table if you passed in month one. With discounts, the $76.50 Builder plan cost least in every month. The month you pass and the discount decide it.

Which costs can come after you pass?

Tradeify notes that some firms may charge a transition, activation or data-related cost after you pass. Phidias counts payout fees, taken from each withdrawal depending on the method. Check both on each firm’s own pages.

Does a discount code lower every month?

Not always. Read which charges the code covers before you count it past month one.
